perfected under Emperor Theodosius II, withstood all invasions for a millennium \u2014 until this spring of 1453.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-tertiary-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-tertiary-background-color has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udff0 the Land Wall<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From south to north, the <strong>Theodosian Walls<\/strong> block the western access to the city, between the Sea of Marmara and the Golden Horn.<br\/>They are composed of <strong>three successive lines<\/strong>:<br\/>\u2013 a <strong>deep moat<\/strong>, sometimes filled with water,<br\/>\u2013 a <strong>first inner wall<\/strong>,<br\/>\u2013 and a <strong>main wall<\/strong>, 12 meters has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Strategic Points<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the land wall, one of the most strategic sectors is the Lycus Valley, located between the St. Romanus Gate and the Charisius Gate.
